Eduin L. Rosell

It can be as simple as the sky’s reflection in a brass trumpet. Or a colorful neon sign slicing through a cloudy, grey, downtown day. Color speaks to me and I interpret with paint and canvas. Architecture, classic cars, people, and performing arts, have emerged from the bristles of my brush. I tend to use acrylic the most but occasionally work with oil, charcoal, and digital art.

I was born in Havana, Cuba into an artistic family. My father, a photographer. My aunt, an actress. My uncle, a musician. I remember my mother oil painting the sepia photos my father developed in his darkroom, a business that put chicken and rice on the table when color photos and pay checks were commodities. But my island life was short-lived. My family and I said goodbye to our home when Fidel Castro opened the Mariel Boatlift for six and half months in 1980. My first day of school in the U.S. was very confusing and scary until art class. All the fears, strained communications, and cultural barriers were forgotten and I lost myself in creating.

I have had to listen very carefully since I was three, the age when I lost 60% of my hearing. Voices and music are muffled. Perhaps this is why I am increasingly fascinated with clarity in my art. Look closer at the 1952 Chevy in front of The Strand. You might find a reflection of a traffic signal or a license plate.

For the first time ever, my art was on public display from December of 2008 through August of 2009 at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre. I was honored to accept a Flourish Award recognition from the Kennesaw State University College of the Arts in 2009.

By day I work as an I.S. Security Administrator for Douglasville County and I live in Kennesaw, 25 minutes north of Atlanta. I graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. Most of my free time is spent painting, working on commissions, cooking, and enjoying the company of my wife and daughter. My art can be viewed at www.EduinRosell.com and Facebook users can become a fan of “Eduin Rosell.”
